I had the amazing experience of volunteering as an Art Teacher with the Yosemite Conservancy this week and had a total of 57 students over the course of five days -- all eager to see and experience Yosemite National Park in a different way. It was an honor to be part of a tradition that started over 40 years ago! Since we only had four hours for the class, I focused on basic watercolor techniques and water control in the classroom before we headed outside to do some trees, tree groves and rocks along the Merced River. I had to keep it pretty high level and introductory so that folks had time to actually observe and paint.
I'm looking forward to doing this again in April 2027 but this time teaching gouache! In the meantime, here are some photos taken at the Happy Isles Art & Nature Center. Link to teaching resources.
